St Michaels Infant School Mickleham, Dorking

A Warm Welcome to St Michael's
from the Friends

The Friends of St Michael’s is our Parent-Teacher Association.

All families automatically become members of The Friends of St Michael’s when their child joins our school.

What does the Friends of St Michael’s do?

• We fundraise for items that the school could not otherwise afford

• We provide funding and help for school trips

• It’s not just about fundraising! We play an extended role in the life of the school and help to provide a richer education for the pupils of St Michael’s

• We represent the views of parents within school

• We also do it because it’s fun, enjoyable and very rewarding!

What’s in it for you?

The Friends of St Michael’s can help parents to:

• improve the school’s facilities, community spirit and partnership with parents

• socialise and get to know each other whilst taking part in a range of activities

• share common concerns and find solutions, working with the school

• find out more about how the school works, developing effective partnerships with the teaching and non-teaching staff

• fundraise for extra items or services to enrich the children’s education

• increase their own knowledge and skills

We can help St Michael’s pupils:

• receive a richer education as a result of items bought by the Friends

• benefit from parents’ increased understanding of the school

• socialise by taking part in fundraising events and activities

• understand the importance of giving

  • We are fortunate at our school to have a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that is, and has been, an integral part of the school community for a number of years.

In its time The Friends of St Michael’s has raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education experience and the school’s facilities.

However, The Friends of St Michael’s is about much more than simply fundraising.

The Friends exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.

Typical events we run throughout the year include:

  • Welcome Party
  • Craft workshops
  • Christmas Story Telling Night
  • Parents’ Quiz Night
  • Summer Fete
  • Easter Trail
  • Hot chocolate/ice cream sales
  • Wine & Cheese night
  • Family Disco
  • Uniform Sales

The Friends of St Michael’s is a charity (registration no: 1081711) registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Our current committee is made up of a mix of parents from all year groups.

We hold regular meetings which are open to everyone to share ideas, thoughts and feedback and we welcome all and any support our parents/carers can offer.

As the saying goes ‘many hands make light work’ and with a keen and devoted group of parents, we can achieve successful events for the whole school community to enjoy while having fun along the way!
